Joy of the Lord- A Devotion for Women

Have you ever wondered how you could ever seemingly find the joy of the Lord again? When you became a Christian, joy is all you knew. Now, all you seem to find is hurt in church and among other Christians.

the joy of the lord

When your concentration is on the hurt, it will be hard to find the joy of the Lord again. But when your concentration is Jesus, His attribute is joy.

To be honest, the joy of the Lord is not something you can lose.

The joy of the Lord must be cultivated.

This post is all about the joy of the Lord.

Unfortunately the joy of the Lord is not something you can muster up. Joy comes from faith in Jesus that He will take care of all the things that you are worried about.

Joy comes from faith in Jesus that He will take care of all the things that you are worried about.

There have been times that I have felt like I lost my joy through deep, lonely trials. But the truth is, the joy of Jesus was still there because He was living on the inside of me.

I wasn’t trying to hold on to the hurt and the evil done, but I had to learn to trust in the fact that God promised He would take care of it in His time.

Many times we don’t experience peace and joy because we are expecting God to behave like us, and reign vengeance immediately on the ones who tried to harm our loved ones.

Joy of the Lord is My Strength

My husband tells me often that everything within the Christian life boils down to faith. It takes faith to have joy- faith in knowing that the Lord is our strength and He can provide joy.

What do you do when you don’t feel happy and your circumstances are weighing down so heavy on you? Lean on God’s truth. This gives you a strength that you can’t explain.

Joy of the Lord Verse

This morning I read this verse and wrote in my journal to think about today, “The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.” (Psalm 28:7)

His joy is a shield that can protect you from the bitterness that tempts to creep in.

The joy of the Lord does not necessarily remove the pain of that thing done to you or your loved one; it does not silence the evil; but it protects your heart.

There was a time I had to seek counsel because anger was stealing my joy. Did I have a right to be angry? You better believe it. If you or your loved one has ever experienced abuse, sometimes you feel as if you will never quit weeding through all the emotions. The suffering that comes while helping a loved one navigate abuse is unlike any other suffering.

You cannot hold God accountable for the hurt you experienced at the hand of another church member or family member.

The Joy of the Lord Brings Peace

“Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.” (Ephesians 3:13)

The very thing meant to destroy you (placed in God's hand) is the very thing God can use to beautify you.

One of the ways we can lean into God’s strength for you is to realize that He’s already defeated our number one enemy. “And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.” (Ephesians 3:16-17)

Through the cross we already have victory. It’s by the cross we can always have the peace and joy in Jesus that will transform every part of your life.

If you don’t know Jesus personally, please reach out to me via email or Instagram. I would love to explain from Scripture how you can know 100% sure that you will be in Heaven one day.

Definition of Joy in the Bible

One of the greatest definitions of joy in the Bible is to simply know the love of Christ.

“That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.” (Ephesians 3:17-19)

When you know the love of Christ, it grounds you when your world is upside down. Scripture tells us that when we really know and experience the love of Christ, it surpasses our knowledge and fills us with the fulness of God.

Have you ever wondered at the people, who through time their testimony was they they were filled with the Spirit and power of God. Yes, they had great faith, but they also knew the unshakeable love that comes through Jesus.

Knowing that type of love is the definition of joy because it's a fruit of the Holy Spirit.

Being filled with the fulness of God completely fills everything lacking in your soul.

From feeling lonely or tired to wanting to see God do BIG things (the IMPOSSIBLE), this takes understanding the love of Christ which fills you with a joy that can’t be taken away from evil circumstances.

Joy Can't Be Found in Your Own Strength

Sure, things in life can bring happiness for a little while. Although, if we make decisions based upon if we are happy or not many times this decision can bring devastation because your feelings constantly change.

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.” (Ephesians 6:10)

In the next several verses, he goes through how to be strong in the Lord. The enemy wants to have you isolated without protection. The armour of God protects us from the wiles of the devil. (Ephesians 6:11)

Joy Can Be Found in Fellowship through Serving Jesus with Other Christians

“Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy, For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now; (Philippians 1:4-5)

These early Christians found joy in serving the Lord through getting the Gospel out. The Gospel can bring a bond that’s stronger than blood, because the friendship is tied through the blood of Christ.

You can have a strength in your marriage and with your children when you serve Christ through the power of the Gospel. It brings a joy that stands the test of time.

If you’re struggling with your joy, ask God how you can serve through your church as they invest in spreading the Gospel.

“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:” (II Corinthians 9:8)

In context of Scripture, the writer is talking about a cheerful giver. When we give of ourselves, time, energy, and financial investments, God makes ALL His grace abound toward you. Like ALL OF HIS GRACE so that you are sufficient in everything you need. That’s amazing!

I think joy is something we all need. Don’t you think?😉

I wrote all about this in detail in this post on Instagram.

Finding Joy in Jesus Can Be Found in Your Walk with God

I wrote this previous blog post, and it went wild on Pinterest > FALLING IN LOVE WITH JESUS

The thing is whenever life doesn’t go as planned or the worst thing happens, when your walk with God is established, you can still go on. I’ve always heard that time heals hurts. I don’t believe that. I believe that with time Jesus can heal your hurt.

When you know that God is for you, your joy can be restored and renewed. Having God on your side doesn’t take being in a closet for hours a day separated from the world, it’s understanding that you are complete in Christ and have everything you need.

You can read more about being rooted in Christ from THIS POST > ROOTED IN CHRIST
