Today I’m sharing the best weight loss tips I’ve learned over the many years through pregnancy, post-partum (x5), and now being 37!😳 Some times losing weight and feeling healthy can feel hard, lonely, and an uphill battle, but it doesn’t have to be that way necessarily.

The weight loss tips I have accumulated in this post have come through lots of research, difficult times (such as my car wreck last year- the doctor told me I could not run or lift weights for 3 months), and trial and error as well as helping other women who also have different circumstances.

You should feel so good through these healthy weight loss tips that the difference in how you feel motivates you to continue.

Weight Loss Tips at Home

For the 17 years I’ve been married, the majority of that time I have been a stay at home mom. During the first year I was married, I would complain to my husband that I couldn’t stay in shape without a gym membership. Well, that tactic didn’t work because we just didn’t have the budget for it. Not only that but we only had one vehicle, and Dan had to leave at 7:20 for work each morning.

He kindly told me that was an excuse anyways😆 

So, I began looking for fun ways to exercise at home. I remember when I was pregnant the first time doing dance dance revolution for hours (anyone else remember this?)! 

After only a few weeks of having Quitman, my oldest son, my husband told me I was more in shape than I was before pregnancy. That lit a spark underneath me that I could work out at home and I didn’t have to have a gym membership.

So, let’s back track a bit, I’ve always loved anything fitness, but learning to eat a healthy diet was a challenge. 

When I was pregnant with my first, I began reading books on pregnancy like, “What to Expect While You’re Expecting,” and the majority of what I remember and took away from it was the different foods and vitamins that were essential for the development of the baby at different stages.

This is when I really started incorporating more whole foods into my diet. As I have worked with women throughout the years on their wellness goals, so many get stuck here. Maybe you’re a picky eater, and do not like veggies. 

THIS ONE THING HELPED ME SO MUCH!

Instead of thinking you have to overhaul your whole life and eating habits overnight, take one meal at a time (one day at a time- literally!) Switch out one food that you normally eat for something a little healthier that you enjoy. 

Do this for a while until you get the hang of it. I started by taking out chips at lunch and switching them for raw broccoli and carrots with ranch dressing. I began reading more books about nutrition and whole foods, and making complete lifestyle changes (but it was a slow process). 

This book really opened my eyes to how powerful whole foods and raw fruits and vegetables are!

I don’t follow this book to the “T,” mainly because I want to get more protein in. Although, this book gives so much wisdom with learning how to incorporate a more holistic lifestyle and how life-changing it can be.

1. Eat lots of raw fruits and veggies

When you incorporate raw fruits and vegetables into your diet, your body can begin healing on a cellular level benefitting your metabolism. It’s so easy when you want to lose weight, so you go out and by a bunch of low calorie, high protein snacks (and that’s okay in its’ place), but your body needs real food!

If eating greens are hard for you, make a smoothie. Green smoothies are so good, and you can’t really taste them!

Lean Green Vanilla Protein Smoothie

This protein smoothie is delicious! Also, so good for easily getting in your veggies. Good for energy, mental clarity, your skin, and slimming down.
Prep Time 7 minutes
Servings 1
Calories 340 kcal

Equipment

  • Blender

Ingredients
  

  • 1/3 Blender Ice
  • 1 Banana
  • 1 Cutie, Mandarin, or Orange
  • 2 Scoops Plexus Vanilla Lean
  • 2 Cups Organic Baby Spinach I add 3 large handfuls of spinach. You can also use a variety of different kind of greens.
  • 1 Cup Almond Milk I've also used other types of milk. They have all been good.

Instructions
 

  • Add the ingredients in order. Pulse the ice until chopped. Blend until you can't see bits of spinach. I also use the milkshake button for a few seconds. Serve in an extra large glass.

This is the protein powder I use and LOVE! It’s so good for gut health, and helping you curve your hunger as a higher protein source, making this a great natural weight loss food idea. You can use it for snacks or substitute up to 2 meals a day. My current routine is eating a big, well-rounded breakfast then drink a shake for lunch, or I’ll do a smoothie instead.

2. Track everything you put in your mouth

This may seem daunting, but the MyFitnessPal app really doesn’t take much time the more you use it. If you’re not reaching your goals, I can almost promise you can find the reason by tracking. Many women are actually not eating enough causing their metabolisms to slow down.

Not sure how much you should actually be eating? I had my macro numbers calculated for me, and it was so helpful! If you need someone to help you calculate how many calories, fat, protein, and carbs you should have, my friend Jessica does this.

3. Create a workout routine you enjoy

For as long as I can remember, running was my main source of exercise. After our car accident, and couldn’t run, I began searching for other things to do. I found Caroline Girvan on YouTube, and it has helped me so much! I weight-train with her 4-5 days a week, then do shorter runs, longer walks, and incorporate HIIT exercises where I can throughout the week. 

I’ve done her Iron Series (recommend doing it first if you are a newbie), Fuel Series, and partial Epic Series.

It only takes 15 minutes of HIIT to really increase your caloric burn, and can continue burning calories for up to 2 days after you exercise. Then weight training is so good for good body composition, keeping your bones protected, and burning more calories.

4. Scripture gives the best weight loss tips motivation

There’s so much in the Bible you can apply as the BEST weight loss tips! There’s Scripture on food, gluttony, laziness, how we treat our bodies, and dying to our flesh. Nearly every day during my Bible time, I write down a verse in my journal that I use to motivate me to live a healthy lifestyle. 

5. Have a cute workout outfit

Sometimes a cute athletic outfit is all the inspiration you need to get you thinking about being fit. 

I have been wearing Snoga skirts for a while, and I love that you can find them on Amazon. This is the one I wear often, because I can do all my workouts in them. Currently they only the option to buy them in black on Amazon.

6. Learn about gut health

I have a whole blog post on “Why I Chose Plexus” sharing more of my health journey. I have been working out consistently since I was in high school, but knew very little about how much gut health can affect your weight loss goals and literally every other part of your life.

These symptoms could possibly be an indication that your gut could be out of balance. I highly recommend Plexus Triplex! 7. Eat more protein

For the longest time I thought eating more protein and lifting weights would bulk me up. The opposite was true for me! I started craving less, toning up, and feeling more energized. 

Some ways to do this easily is by making dry beans to go with your dinner every evening. You could switch to a protein milk like Fairlife. Tuna is a great option because it’s super high in protein with almost no fat. There are many ideas to incorporate more protein! Try to aim for as much real food as possible. Use your protein bars as a back up. These are the protein bars I use because the ingredients are fairly clean. 

More high protein breakfast ideas-

  • turkey sausage, fresh scrambled eggs
  • oatmeal (I always add a 1/2 tablespoon real butter, 1 tablespoon chia seed, 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed, walnuts, and drizzle honey.
  • omelet with mushrooms, bell pepper, broccoli, and olive oil
  • 2 boiled eggs with a piece of toasted organic Dave’s killer bread with seeds
  • Greek yogurt bowl (recipe on Instagram highlights)
  • Green smoothie
  • Saturday, I always cook something fun from scratch that my kids will enjoy.

Get a Lab. Seriously, a puppy (ours is a year and a half). She is so fast, she literally has me out of breath so fast, and I run all the time!😂

Next, if counting your macro numbers is too much for you right now, only calculate calories and try to make them healthy, and still aim for high protein, whole food options.
